about

The Chase is an original song by SWIM released on 4/5/2019.

SWIM is a pop-rock band originating from Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, NY. Friends since high school the members of SWIM have taken time to develop their sound into a refreshing pop-rock sound that is as authentic as it is radio ready. SWIM has steadily grown their fanbase performing from local Long Island venues to national stages such as SXSW in Austin, TX. The Chase is a single ready to be the song of the summer!

The Chase was written by all members of the band, slowly coming together as they wrote each section of the song. The song speaks to uncertainty and doubt that one may feel in a relationship, while struggling to make it through. What started as a simple chord progression would be recorded and polished over the course of the year to become the version that is released today. The Chase was released on April 5th, 2019, it was self-produced, and mix and mastered at ZIN Records in Calverton, NY.

SWIM consists of Dan McCaffrey(Vocals), Nick Riviezzo(Guitar), Pat Morelli(Bass, Keys) and Brian D'Angio(Drums). The band draws influence from other bands such as Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Strokes, The Kooks, The Lumineers, Neon Trees, and Coldplay. SWIM is currently playing shows in support of their most recent release as the begin to conceptualize their first full-length album.

Lyrics:

When you’re down, we spend all night talking
On the phone in the pouring rain
About how it scares us, our outfits they wear us
Sometimes

I do my best to say everything right
In my mind, read your lips, give some insight
The swing of your hips stands to lure my eyes down
and out back to you, then the ground

Am I on the right track? How would I know?
Tell me this won’t leave me broken-hearted
Kathleen, give me some more
Quietly she tells me what we’re living for is

But I can’t believe in myself
When you’re out there, sleeping with someone else

You’ll look back, we’ll make it
Lord knows that I can’t fake it
This time, it’s different
I’ll be anything you bleed, don’t underestimate it

The things that I would do for you
The things that I would do in vain

Am I on the right track? How would I know?
Tell me this won’t leave me broken-hearted
Kathleen, give me some more
Quietly she tells me what we’re living for is

But I can’t believe in myself
When you’re out there, sleeping with someone else
You know it’s hard enough to find time for straightening out my own mind
Since you’ve gone away
Slacking off all my obligations, checklists, and occupations
’Cause without your face to see, I get lost in the chase, baby
And everything seems difficult now

Destiny is calling out to me
You know I can’t ignore the call
All my life, overestimating
What it takes to decide when you’re in love

You'll look back, we'll make it
Lord knows that I can't fake it, this time it's different
